If you’ve come across our website you likely have some understanding as to the benefits of social media marketing, and how using this type of strategy can have a positive impact on your SEO rankings.

You may understand the value of having accounts on Facebook, Google+, Yelp and Instagram. But you may still have some questions regarding how frequently you should post.

You may also have some questions about the types of posts you should be using.

Although some people believe that volume is key (ie: posting twice a day on Facebook is two times as good as posting once!), that’s not quite how this works.

Sharing more messages, each day, on every social media platform you have is unlikely to drive the types of results you’re looking for.

Remember, social media marketing is about strategy. It’s not about throwing everything you have against every wall you see-  in hopes that some of it will stick.

What the experts say

There have been quite a few studies when it comes to how often business owners should be posting to their social media accounts.

When it comes to Facebook, most digital marketers will agree that one post a day is ideal. If you post more than once a day, this can start to feel spammy, which, we’re guessing is not what you’re aiming for.

The same goes for LinkedIn.

You’ll also want to reshare, or curate a post, every other day.

Twitter is a bit different—and you may be surprised to learn that the number of recommended tweets per day is far higher than the recommended number of Facebook and LinkedIn posts per day.

Ideally, you’ll want to tweet 15 times each and every day, because studies have shown that the most number of retweets take place within an hour of each post. Not surprisingly, volume is best for Twitter, because your goal is to get your message shared.

Posting on Google+, however, should employ a similar strategy to Facebook and LinkedIn, although on this platform, two posts a day is idea. Here, the goal is to reshare or curate a post every other day.

Are you using Instagram? If so, you may be surprised to learn that you’ll want to post at least once, if not twice each day.  Studies have shown that larger, well known national brands post on IG one and a half times a day.

Remember, IG isn’t like Twitter, so you’re not going for volume. If you’re curating posts, you should only do this as needed, and you should only curate posts that will be beneficial to your target audience.
